Race report by Andy Verrall
Round 4 of the series saw the field increase again with 16 riders signing on, with series leader Leda Cox looking the favourite, with opposition coming from Abby Jackson, Janet Birkmyre & Sarah Collis as the main threats.
A hot sunny evening saw a good crowd who where entertained to an aggressive race, the opening 3 laps were taken at a steady pace then on lap 4 Cox attacked hard and the field stretched out into a long line with gaps appearing. Cox kept the pressure on for 2 laps and was joined by Birkmyre & Collis with the rest spread out round the circuit.
The leading 3 worked well and increased there lead steadily over the re-formed bunch who were not working well together. At 20 mins into the race Collis was dropped from the leaders and went back to the bunch, Cox & Birkmyre shared the primes and kept working well together, whilst Ceri Dipple took a prime for the bunch.
With 10 laps remaining Cox put the pressure on and Birkmyre dropped back, with the bunch now over a minute down. The final 10 laps saw Cox riding hard to increase her lead with Birkmyre working hard to hold off the bunch.
At the finish Cox crossed the line for her Hat-Trick increasing her lead in the overall to 19 points, whilst Birkmyre came in 1.15 down and the bunch 20seconds later led in by Collis from Jackson, Dipple crossed the line in 7th place to hang onto 2nd overall in the series by 1 point from Birkmyre.
The next round takes place on the 27th June with Prizes down to 6th place Primes and BC points down to 10th Place. Contact Andy Verrall, 07967 966719, for details.
