Despite local showers & a strong wind a total of 51 riders signed on for the WCRA road races held at Goodwood circuit.30 in the Jo Bruton event over 43 miles which for a national trophy event was a little disappointing. However on a positive side 21 for the support event showed that there is a requirement for the splitting of some women's events now.

The decision to run the events around the circuit in reverse and moving the chicane away from just before the finish was totally justified when in the preceding men's events a crash brought down many in the wet coming out of the chicane into the finish.

The start was a minute apart with the support race closing the gap on the Bruton for the first 5 laps until a crash disrupted the bunch which with many 1st timers to road racing was going well. Meanwhile the Bruton event was starting to pick up speed with attacks from Emma Silversides, Brenda Pennell & Rosie De Remedis all marked by series leader Helen Wyman.

The reduced support bunch started there last 2 laps with a new position for most of them to be in-going for a race win. Cerri Dipple used her experience to clip away with Helen Haworth jumping onto her wheel as they opened a small gap on the rest Dipple kicked hard at 400 metres and had the race won meanwhile Haworth was just about holding off the fast finishing bunch led home by 16 year old Natasha Collins in her first road race.

The Bruton event by now was going to end in a bunch sprint as despite a few attacks from the same riders the rest seem content to sit watch and do just enough to pull back any attacks. Janet Birkmyre used her fast finish to great effect to hold of Hannah Bussey & Junior Kim Blyth with the rest a very close behind all lined out across the circuit.

The result confirmed Helen Wyman as overall winner of the Jo Bruton Trophy for 2005.
